Throughout
the process the focus is on finding an educational placement where the student will be successful and the family will be confident.
The process begins with interviews with parents and the student to determine
needs, interests and goals, as well as social, geographic, and financial considerations.
- I will a conduct a comprehensive review and assessment of transcripts, reports and recommendations,
current testing, activities, and interests.
- I will make
referrals, if necessary, for additional testing, tutoring or admissions test coaching.
For 9th graders, I will advise
on course selection for sophomore year, make recommendations on testing and summer activities, and discuss how to make
high school a successful endeavor.
For 10th graders, I will
review freshman year accomplishments, advise on course selection for junior year and make recommendations for extracurricular
involvement and testing.
For 11th & 12th graders, I
will review the academic record to date and conduct an in-depth interview on college preferences of both student and
parent(s).
- I will guide the student in career planning
and in refining choices of college major.
- Considering all
the relevant factors, I will prepare a selected list of colleges that is uniquely suited for the student
- I will provide guidance and instruction in preparing applications, writing
admissions essays, and visiting schools or programs.
- If needed,
I will help with arrangements for admissions testing and for visiting schools or programs.
- I will advise on making successful college visits, as well as provide recommendations
and practice for college interviews, if requested.
- Throughout
the application process I will maintain ongoing contact with admission offices.
- I will guide the student in preparing an activities resume to be included with college applications.
- I will provide advice on meeting deadlines and requirements for application to
selected colleges.
- I will provide essay writing assistance,
which includes brainstorming session to help the student select the correct topic, optional Writing Workshop to
teach the student how to write this essay, editing all essays and short answer required by the college, ensuring that
the student's voice and writing style are consistent in the essay
- I
will be available for consultation with the family about final choice once acceptances have been received, as requested
- My follow-up will extend for as much as a full year after placement to monitor
the fit for the family and the student.
